JPA’s Master class is an intensive and immersive experience based around known pillars of learning.

Provides students with a 4 week comprehensive package designed to master fundamental concepts in photography.

It has been proven by professional sports teams, universities, and world renowned art schools that success does not come from luck, raw talent, or advanced complex techniques.  Rather, consistent success only comes from continuous dedicated practice of simple fundamental skills.

Just as you can not write a brilliant poem until you have mastered the basics of grammar, you can not consistently produce exceptional photos without firmly understanding how to manipulate light.

This course uses a proven curriculum which provides structure, motivation, expert guidance, and a peer group to ensure each student will graduate with an in-depth, accurate understanding of digital photography.

This class is designed for beginner and intermediate photographers. It strategically combines classroom, studio, and field practice to drill key concepts. We will first provide exciting and in-depth lectures, followed by hands on practice using professional studio gear and an acclaimed international model to reinforce the lesson.  Instructor led field excursions will then ensure each student understands how to practically apply these concepts to produce incredible photographs.

This class is limited to 5 people to ensure our students receive individual attention

Classroom training will cover key concepts including:

  • Camera operation and exposure modes​​

  • How to quickly and correctly set exposure

  • Understanding aperture, shutter speed, and ISO

  • How to use flash and light modifiers to enhance without overpowering a photo

  • How to ensure fast and reliable focus every time

  • Gear selection

  • Setting white balance

  • Composition techniques to create interesting photographs

  • Lens selection - Trading focal length, compression, distortion, prime, zoom

  • Capturing motion, creating dramatic effects, depth of field

  • ND Filters, polarizers, grey cards, lens hoods

  • Photoshop and Lightroom 

  • Long exposure/Night photography

Included studio time provides hands on practice using an acclaimed international model to reinforce the lessons.  Additionally these topics will be covered:

  • How to use flash to enhance and not overpower photos, as well as creative use of flash

  • How to effectively use light modifiers to soften the light from a flash

    • Umbrellas, softboxes, bare flash, reflectors

  • How to use a light meter to set exposure, and balance flash with ambient light

  • Use of color gels to blend flash into ambient light

  • How to pose and photograph a model

This course also provides an instructor led field excursion designed to ensure each student can practically apply the lessons from this workshop.

At the completion of this course each student should expect:

  • To acquire a high level of proficiency operating their DSLR camera in all modes

  • Understand how to create various photographic effects

  • Be able to effectively blend flash into a photo to enhance as well as add dramatic effects

  • Add several incredible photos to their portfolio

  • To develop a peer group of similarly skilled photographers
